Things to Ask before Placing an Advertisement

When owning a business, there will be dozens of opportunities to showcase through advertisements. However, it's tough to know if you're making the right decision. Here are some questions to help spend your money in the right place!

  1. What are you looking to achieve with this ad?

Ask yourself this question before exploring placing an ad. Typical answers could include general branding, more sales, awareness of a specific announcement in your business like change in location, or event date.

2. Will this ad get in front of my ideal customer?

Find out what demographic this advertisement serves. For example, if you are looking to get in front of Gen Z, then the local paper might not be the best platform to serve your ads.

3. What is a realistic return on the investment for this advertisement?

Determine if you are specifically looking for a tangible return or general awareness. This will help determine how to measure the effectiveness of the ads.

4. Last but not least, how can you track the ad performance?

For digital ads, the analytics will show how many people saw the ad. Although that isn't available for print, that doesn't mean that there aren't ways to track success like QR codes or special phone numbers/landing pages.
